Mrs. Nicholson was my 3rd grade teacher. I wore french braids almost every day. I practiced piano every morning before school. My sweet pretend brother was born that year. We now call him Bubba. Mrs. Nicholson had young daughters. I wanted to be a mama like her when I grew up. We visited my aunt and uncle in Texas that year. It was the first time I'd ever flown on an airplane. I got my name on the board for pulling Jacob Sterenberg's hair. Mrs. Nicholson told him I teased him because I liked him. That made me cry and run to the bathroom. I hid on top of the toilet seat so that no one could find me. I had a red notebook. We kept our notebooks on a shelf at the back of the room. I learned to draw pretty flower vines. I made flower vine drawings for everyone I knew. I don't remember a single friend from that year. I'm fairly certain I had a lot of friends. I gave Mrs. Nicholson a sun tea pitcher for a gift at the end of the year.
Isaac starts 3rd grade tomorrow. Mrs. Nicholson is his 3rd grade teacher. I wonder what things he'll remember about this year when he is 34...

Jennifer,
I am impressed that you can remember all that! Wait til you are 43-I am sitting here racking my brain to even think who my third grade teacher was......
LOVE this. My 3rd grade teacher was Mr. Oller, my first-ever male teacher. I also remember getting in trouble that year and it was for playing "sword fight" with my big jumbo souvenneire (sp?) pencil with a friend that sat behind me. We both had to put our heads down--I was humilited!!! But Mr. Oller was good peeps--I'll never forget how he noticed I missed my folks when they were away on trip. He even hugged me (which is probably illegal now) and made me feel so much better! :-) ALSO--I saw your big 3rd grader and his daddy biking to school!
In 3rd grade, I got whacks in the hallway outside of the classroom during indoor recess. That's about all I remember..... except for the paddling I got a few days later because my Mom and Dad found out from my brother who was in the the same grade as the sister of my friend who got in trouble with me! Yup - that's pretty much all I can remember.
